Habit Drift Compass
Habit Drift Compass

Before you start

Has a habit drifted somewhere you did not plan for it to go?

This looks at routines and patterns that have built up in your life. It is normal to have more than one. Most people do. The question here is a narrower one: how much is this routine costing you?

If you are worried about your immediate safety, stop here. Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, go to urgent care, or call 911.

How this works

  • TimeThree to five minutes. Twelve questions.
  • ContextAnswer for the last few weeks or months. Not for a bad day, and not for a particularly good one either.
  • OutcomeYou pick one habit to look at, answer the questions, and get back some perspective and a few things to consider. You can run it again for a different habit.

What are you looking at today?

People tend to think about habits in extremes, with a label attached that brings its own weight. That label is left out here on purpose. Any routine can turn its volume up. That is what this is looking for.

Pick the one that has been taking up the most room in your head lately.

The Habit Drift Compass is a reflection tool. It does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional.
